Caroline got a book set of Olivia for Christmas, and it included a CD of Dame Edna reading the book aloud. She was so psyched to listen and "read" along with the bejeweled lady on the cover. As soon as Chuck hit the play button, she was startled.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Why is this man reading?"

I live in the UK, and Dame Edna's popularity has long been a mystery to me.
So, how did you explain cross-dressing to her?

Btw, I love it that she is totally not fooled. And not afraid to say so.
I left that one to her dad. Ha! He just told her it was Dame Edna. And she kept insisting it was a man. I think she finally accepted the explanation of Dame Edna just having a deep voice.
And as for his/her popularity here: I think we just assume anything British is funny. ;)
